How does burial life insurance work?

You request a price quote and apply for your burial policy. There’s no health exam and no health questions asked. Your rate per $1,000 of coverage is based on your age, gender and tobacco use, among other factors. Rates do vary by insurance company.

You may be able to apply completely online for your policy. Once approved you can start your life insurance immediately with your first month’s premium payment. Some insurers accept a check, a credit card, or allow you to make an electronic funds transfer from your bank account.

These burial policies do come with a money-back guarantee. You may have 15, 20, 30 or 60 days in which to request your policy be cancelled and receive a full refund of all premiums paid. The length of your money-back guarantee may vary by state in which you live.

When purchasing your policy you will select a beneficiary or beneficiaries who will receive the proceeds (death benefit) from your life insurance upon your passing.

Life insurance benefits are usually paid out free from income tax.
